At the end of June, Ship to Gaza’s trawler ‘Marianne’ from Gothenburg will be joining other boats in the Freedom Flotilla 3 in a joint attempt to break the illegal and inhuman blockade of the Gaza strip. Among those who will be involved in the action is the Swedish author Kajsa Ekis Ekman. Ekman is the author of the books “Being and Being Bought – Prostitution, Surrogacy and the Split Self” and “Stolen Spring” on the Eurocrisis as seen from Greece. She is a TED-speaker, writes regularly for the Swedish major daily Dagens Nyheter and is an op-ed columnist at Dagens ETC.
“The Gaza blockade has meant that all exports have been stopped and 43% of the population has become unemployed – according to the World Bank that is one of the highest unemployment figures in the world. According to Save the Children, in Gaza more than half of all children suffer from anaemia. They are constantly being bombed, they don’t have access to clean water, they are not allowed to import food or medical equipment and they are prevented from fishing in their own waters. It’s as though suddenly the whole world doesn’t care about free trade. No child should have to grow up in such conditions. Ship to Gaza is a concrete action that all human beings with a heart should support.”
Ekman will be pleased to respond to questions sent by email to: firstname.lastname@example.org .
