At the end of June, Ship to Gaza’s trawler ‘Marianne’ from Gothenburg will be joining other boats in the Freedom Flotilla 3 in a joint attempt to break the illegal and inhuman blockade of the Gaza strip. Among those who will be involved in the action is the Swedish author Kajsa Ekis Ekman. Ekman is the author of the books “Being and Being Bought – Prostitution, Surrogacy and the Split Self” and “Stolen Spring” on the Eurocrisis as seen from Greece.

The Israeli military has exonerated itself over one of the most controversial incidents in last summer’s Gaza war: a missile attack that killed four children on Gaza beach and injured a number of others.

Mohammad Ramiz Bakr, 11, Ahed Atef Bakr and Zakariya Ahed Bakr, both 10, and Ismail Mahmoud Bakr, 9, were killed when they were hit by explosive rounds. Three other people were injured in the attack: Hamad Bakr, 13, was hit by shrapnel in his chest; his cousin Motasem, 11, injured in his head and legs, and Mohammad Abu Watfah, 21, who was hit by shrapnel in his stomach.

The remote Swedish Village in the far south of the Gaza Strip is home to some 95 households living under extreme poverty. The Village, built by the Swedish Government in the 1960s, suffers from poor infrastructure and inappropriate living conditions tolerated by its 700 inhabitants, who live on less than $US1 per day.

Marianne, the Scandinavian trawler who is headed to meet up with other boats of the third Freedom Flotilla to Gaza, will arrive in Lisbon, Portugal today Wednesday 3/6. The passenger’s list on this leg from Bueu in Spanish Galicia to Lisbon includes among others European MEP Ana Maria Miranda Paz.

Marianne will be moored at Marina do Parque das Nações/Marina da Expo.

A media event is scheduled for 18.30 PM 3/6 Then there will be possible to visit the boat and ask questions to crew, passengers and activists.

Marianne, the Scandinavian trawler who is headed to meet up with other boats of the third Freedom Flotilla to Gaza, will arrive in Bueu, Galicia, Spain on Saturday May 30. A welcoming committee is organising a reception in the town hall, as well as film and music events.

The program is also commemorating the five year-memory of the deadly attack on the first Freedom Flotilla, when ten human rights activists lost their lives.

European MEP Ana Maria Miranda Paz will be one of the passengers when the boat leaves Galicia for Portugal.

The trawler Marianne av Göteborg, acquired by Ship to Gaza Sweden and Ship to Gaza Norway, is on her way to the Mediterranean, where she will join other ships in a new Freedom Flotilla to Gaza, Palestine.

Next stop on the way is Brest, where associates will welcome the ship and its crew. Media and public are invited to a reception at Quai la Pérouse au Port du Château, on Tuesday May 26th, at 6 PM.
